From Hospital 199 to Vinmec Da Nang, one question has run through my work: how health data can be connected, standardised and governed responsibly, so that AI genuinely helps clinicians, and whole health systems, make better decisions.
AI is only as smart as its data. And the hardest part is usually not the technology, but processes, mindsets and governance.
Viewpoints
“Before it is an asset, health data is a responsibility: a responsibility to every patient who has entrusted the hospital with their health information.”
“The biggest challenge is not the technology itself, but changing the processes and mindset of an entire system. It is a governance problem more than a technical one.”
As Chinese hospitals list patient datasets on data exchanges to feed the AI industry, the question for Vietnam is not whether to sell data, but whether hospitals are ready to govern data as a responsible asset.
The important question is not “Can AI replace doctors?” but how data from hospitals, clinics and patients can be connected so that AI better supports both diagnosis and operations.
